basic human right bc it is necessary for human life and expression of creativity we have from God. shouldn’t be viewed nd valued for what it produces bc it’ll hurt a person’s dignity, life, and ability to participate in community

family needs where peeople can provide the basic necessities of life. human dignity where we can learn to put our natural talents to use. common good where we add to the whole human family. sharing in God’s work where we reflect through our creativity the work of God
why do people have a responsibility to work
work is necessary to maintain life-giving relationships
what does it mean to treat workers as a means of production
workforce has been dehumanized. no consideration is given to the worker becuase their worth is measured in terms of what they can produce
3 ways people are prevented from having good work
unemployment for a long-time, being marginalized, labor laws not being enforced
what does the parable of the laborers in the vineyard say about human work
the parable shows us that God is generous to all whether or not we think they are deserving. also shows worker is more important than quantity of work
what is the difference btwn the subjective and objective aspects of work
subjective is what is experienced by the worker and objective is what is produced by the worker
does CST put more value on subjective or objective aspect and why
ST JPII in 1981 encyclical “On Human Work” said subjective is more important because work is “for man” and not man “for work” Pope Francis said something similar when talking to the workers of Terni Steel Mill in Italy

- right to work, people fulfill their responsibility to provide for themselves and familes. primary way they take part in God’s work and creation 2. just wage, people need enough for decent life for themselves and family 3. respect for worker’s family, people need time for leisure and take part in community
how does inadequate education affect work
prevents millions from developing their talents and finding work needed by their communities. harder for people long-term to get good paying jobs
3 ways people can cooperate to change policies of employers
power of cooperation, cooperate with others to influence direct and indirect employers. political activism, use our right and responsibility to influence the decisions made by government purchasing power support dignity of work and fair treatment of epople doing the work
explain role solidarity should play in good business practices
solidarity’s role should be central in good business practices because companes should realize that what they do affects the larger society and its common good. business leaders + owners have a greater responsibility to enable solidarity
