Why are specialty hospitals identified as “long term care facilities”?
because their patients are usually hospitalized for several weeks for months before they are well enough to return to their home
What are desirable traits for people interested in pursuing health care careers?
A strong desire to help others, a genuine concern for the welfare of patients and clients and the patience and emotional stability to deal with people of diverse backgrounds in stressful situations.

What is Maldistribution?
describes the fact that healthcare workers are not distributed according to the population of health needs in certain geographic areas
Dentist
diagnose and treat problems with teeth and tissues in the mouth. along with giving advice and administering care to help prevent future problems. They provide instruction on diet, brushing, flossing, the use of fluorides, and other aspects of dental care. They remove tooth decay, till cavities, examine X-rays, place protective plastic sealants on children’s teeth, straighten teeth and repair fractured teeth.
Dentists in private practice
oversee a variety of administrative tasks, including bookkeeping and the buying of equipment and supplies. They may employ and supervise dental assistants, dental laboratory technicians and receptionists.
Orthodontists
the largest group of specialists, straighten teeth applying pressure to the teeth with braces or other appliances
What do dental school’s require?
Dental schools require a bachelors degree for admission and also applicants to take the Dental Admissions Test (DAT)
What classes should high school students be in if they want to become dentists?
Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Health and Mathematics
What to dental schools award degree for?
Most dental school award the degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) others award an equivalent degree of Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD)
What does dentistry requires?
diagnostic ability and manual skills. Dentists should have good visual memory: excellent judgement regarding space, shape and color: high degree of manual dexterity: and scientific ability. Good business sense, self discipline and good communication skills are helpful for success in private practice.
Dental Hygienist
Provide preventative care and must have a license in the state that they practice

sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment. State have varying requirements for Dental Assistants

no set level of education and need manual dexterity to perform job duties
Why is dentistry a good choice?
A career in dentistry is a good choice because of the number of dentist that will retire
Endodontist
dental specialist who focuses on complex tooth problems that primarily affect tooth pulp. Tooth “pulp” is what dental providers call the nerves, blood vessels and other tissues deep inside each tooth
Periodontist
is a gum specialist. They focus on treating conditions that affect the tissues that support your teeth.
