Chapter 7 Flashcards
(11 cards)
Hypersecretion
Too much hormone secreted for the prevailing conditions
Primary hypersecretion
Secreting organ, gland 3, produces too much hormone
Secondary hyperseecretion
tropic hormones are produced at too high of level
How to figure out if it is primary or secondary?
-do a blood test
-Primary is going to have Hormone 3 high while the others are low
Secondary- Multiple hormones are going to be high
Hyposecretion
Too little hormone secreted for the prevailing conditions
Primary hyposecretion
secreting organ, gland #3, fails
Secondary hyposecretion
tropic hormones are too low
Hyporesponsiveness
Cellular receptors do not respond to appropriate levels of hormone
How do receptors not respond appropriately
-Receptors are defective
-lack of receptors
Hyperresponsiveness
Gland over respond to appropriate levels of hormone
Does the body have a single pathway for everything? This response does this etc.
No, one stimulus can cause multiple different kinds of responses
