What is sort
- This includes appropriate selection of a place of work, behaviour, and proper instrumentation facilities of work, with the removal of everything which is unwanted or useless.
- Remove unnecessary items from the workspace.
What is set in order?
- Compactness of a workplace and having every necessary tools and technique for making them simple and quickly used.
- Organize tools and materials for ease of access
What is shine
- A clean work environment enhances work safety to avoid injuries, and gives better control of equipment and enhanced accountability for the resources of manufacturing.
- Clean the workspace and equipment regularly.
What is Standardize
- There should be set of standards for an organisation for its culture and facility utilisation based on which each worker performs their duties. It helps in taking care of equipment and maintaining workplace in order.
- Establish standards for processes and organization.
What is sustain
- This is the capability of workers to maintain self-discipline without managing by the top authority. Adjustments by workers based onthe standards followed by the organisation will definitely avoid bad habits and give guidance.

What is preparation
Management decides whether or not to pursue a TQM program. They undergo training, identify external needs, set a vision and goals, draft policy, allocatere sources, and communicate goals organization-wide.
What is planning
starts with setting quantifiable and measurable targets.While doing this the organization needs to keep customer’s wants in mind. In the planning stage, a detailed implementation plan is created, infrastructure is set up, and necessary resources are secured.
Methods for generating ideas in the planning phase
- Brainstorming session
- Surveys and feedback
- Benchmarking
- Swot analysis

Encourage team members to share ideas freely.

Gather input from employees and customers.

Analyze competitors and industry standards.

Assessment
This process requires a thorough self-assessment both from management and customers or clients. The assessment will be on the qualities and characteristics of members of the company as well as the company itself.
Implementation
During this phase that support personnel are chosen and trained, and managers and the workforce are trained.
Training entails raising workers awareness of exactly what TQM involves and how it can help them and the company.
Barriers to TQM Implementation
- Inadequate training - Lack of knowledge and skills to implement TQM effectively.
- Poor communication - Ineffective dissemination of information across the organization.
- Lack of Leadership commitment - Insufficient support from top management.
- Resistance to change - Employees may be hesitant to adopt new practices.
Diversification
Managers utilize experiences and successes to bring groups outside the organization into the quality process. Expanding products or markets to reduce risk and enhance growth.
