if you approach the scene using the front door, do not stand directly in front of the door to avoid a fatal funnel situation. ID yourself, and state the purpose of your visit. move to & maintain a position of advantage, such as somewhere you cannot be attacked from behind. stay out of doorways & visually assess the scene, take notes of number of people. observe hands, body language, & facial expressions. scan the room for hazards such as weapons, dangerous pets, or hiding places

Q

How to engage with persons on scene

A

ID the involved persons through observation & answers to your questions. assess their physical, intellectual, & emotional well-being, & how likely they are to be violent. understanding the role of each person involved in an incident provides a foundation for IDing the victim of a crime. keep in mind the concept of personal space. each person has different boundaries regarding personal space & may become uncooperative or violent if you stand too close (people prone to violence of experienced abuse= more space)
