Chapter 7 experimental design- factorial designs Flashcards
(9 cards)
Factorial design
any experimental design with more than one IV
Factorial design matrix
a row and column arrangement that characterises a factorial design and shows the IV’s, the level of each IV and the total number of conditions in the study
main effect
the presence of otherwise statistically significant differences between levels of an IV in a factorial design
interaction
in a factorial design, an interaction occurs when the effect of one IV depends on the level of another IV
mixed factorial design
a factorial design with at least one between-subjects factor and one within subject factor
P X E Factorial designs
personal variable, environmental variable
mixed P X E Factorial design
a mixed design with at least one subject factor and one manipulated factor
ATI Designs
aptitude treatment interaction design- form of P X E Factorial design that is found in educational research, the goal of which is to examine possible interactions between aptitude variable and treatment variable
Simple effect analysis
following an ANOVA, this is a follow up test to a significant interaction, to compare individual cells
