(9 cards)

1
Q

List the five functions of the respiratory system.

A
  • Bring air from the atmosphere into the lungs
    -Transfer oxygen into the blood
-Remove carbon dioxide from the blood
-Expel heat and water vapour in the air breathed out
-Allow the vocal cords to create speech air breathed out.

Q

Discuss how the diaphragm assists with breathing.

Q

Outline the function of alveoli and where they can be found.

A

The alveoli are cup-shaped sacs at the ends of the smallest bronchioles. Each alveolus is only one cell thick and surrounded by capillaries that continually exchange oxygen for carbon dioxide and water.

5
Q

Define ventilation.

A

Ventilation (V) is the amount of air that is inspired and expired during one minute. It is calculated by multiplying tidal volume (TV) by respiratory rate (RR): V = TV × RR.

Q

Where does Carbon dioxide go?

A

it goes through the veins and heart back to the lungs where it is diffused into the alveoli and expired by the respiratory system.
