What are the two systems of decision making?
System 1 and 2
System 1
Intuitive and largely unconscious , fast automatic and largely unconscious mode
System 2
Slow, deliberate, analytical and arrive at explicit beliefs and reasoned choices
Classical/ Rational model
How managers should make decisions, and assumes managers to make logical decisions the organizations best interest
Steps of the classical model/ rational model
Identify the problem or opportunity, think up alternative solutions, evaluate and select a solution, implement the solution chosen
What are some issues with the rational model?
It describes how managers should make decisions but not how they actually do it
Non-rational model
Explains how managers make decisions , more descriptive than prescriptive
Two types of non-rational model
Satisficing, and bounded rationality
Satisficing
Herbert Simon studied how managers actually make decisions
Bounded Rationality
Concept that suggest that the ability of decision makers to be rational is limited by time, complexity ,etc
Decision Tree
A graph of decision and their possible consequences
Evidence- Based Management
The translation of principles based on best evidence into organizational practice
Predicitve Modeling
data mining techniques used to predict future behavior
Big Data
Includes not only data in corporate databases but surveillance, network communications
Big Data Analytics
The process of examining large amounts of data a variety of types to uncover
What are the 4 ineffective reactions to how individuals respond to a decision situation
Relaxed Avoidance, Relaxed Charge, Defensive Avoidance, and Panic
Relaxed avoidance
manager decides to take no action in the belief that there will be no negative consequences
relaxed change
manager realizes that complete inaction will have negative consequences but opts for the first available alternative
Defensive Avoidance
managers can’t find good solutions and procrastinates, passes the buck
Panic
managers are so frantic to get rid of the problem that he or she can’t deal

A group process that uses physically dispersed experts who fill out questionnaires to anonymously generate ideas.
