Chapter 7 terms Flashcards
(10 cards)
Somatic
somatic (conscious control)- CNS to skeletal muscle(motor nerves), cranial nerves, spinal nerves
Soma
Cell body (perikaryon or soma)• in CNS typically polygonal; in PNS round
Inclusions
melanin granules (a potential by-product of DOPA, the precursor to dopamine and noradrenaline), lipofuscin granules (yellowish), and lipid droplets
Spines
dendrites have spines that form synapses with other neurons
Axon hillock
Axon hillock - pyramid-shaped region at soma/axon junction
Initial segment
Initial segment - the region between axon and myelin sheath (AP)
refractory period
Refractoriness is the fundamental property of any object of autowave nature not to respond on stimuli, if the object stays in the specific refractory state
Ganglia
aggregates of cell bodies (somas) located outside the CNS
Node of Ranvier
a gap in the myelin sheath of a nerve, between adjacent Schwann cells.
Interneuron
Interneurons-connect neurons in a chain
