Explain the logic behind the imperfect progressive and how it makes sense with the time line of the past. What is the imperfect progressive?
The imperfect progressive is estar (conditions and locations) and makes sense because words such as haber: to speak, in Spanish becomes hablando: speaking. Speaking is in the imperfect form because there is no indication of when the action started or when it will end. Whereas the word "spoken" indicates that the action is over and must be in the preterite form.

Tenía
Had. Imperfect form of tener: to have.
