What does ‘BRI’ stand for?

What is the belt and road initiative?
It is a project to create a network of links from mainland China across the world. They are big, costly, infrastructure projects to build ports, railways, roads, pipelines, and power stations.
What does the ‘belt’ represent in belt and road initiative?
It represents the land routes.
What does the ‘road’ represent in belt and road initiative?
It represents the sea routes.
Why is China doing the belt and road initiative?
- China wants to invest it’s money.
- It will help China to import and export goods more easily and create jobs for Chinese workers.
- The project benefits the whole world and it will speed up developement.
- Some countries this that it is to gain more power and influence around the world.
How does the BRI work?
- China talks to countries about BRI projects.
- China offers to lend the countries money for the projects, at low interest rates.
- Chinese companies arrive to carry out the projects.
- Everyone looks forward to the benefits.

Over 125 countries agreed to cooperate with the BRI plan.
Where does China get all the money for the BRI?
China is one of the world’s top manufacturers and has a lot of money from exporting goods.
State the downsides of the BRI
- It may lead to a rise in the use of fossil fuels, which can heavily influence global warming.
- It may take a long time to benefit a country.
- Several countries have been unable to pay.
- Some countries may have some difficulties.
