What is carcinoma of the endometrium?
Malignant tumor of the uterine lining
What is endometriosis?
Endometrial tissue located outside the uterus
What is fibroids?
Benign tumors of the uterus
What is ovarian carcinoma?
Malignant tumor of the ovary
What is ovarian cysts?
Collections of fluid within a sac in the ovary
What is PID?
- Pelvic Inflammatory Disease
- Leading causes for this are caused by STDs.
What is abruptio placentae?
Premature separation of the normally implanted placenta
Choriocarcinoma
Malignant tumor of the placenta
What is ectopic pregnancy?
Misplaced implantation of egg. It is the implantation of the fertilized egg in any site other than the normal uterine location
What is placenta previa?
Placental implantation over the cervical opening of in the lower region of the uterine wall
What is preeclampsia?
Abnormal condition associated with pregnancy that is characterized by high blood pressure, edema, and proteinuria. Can result in fetus death.
What is Down syndrome?
Trisomy 21; chromosomal abnormality; extra chromosome
What is Erythroblastosis fetalis?
Hemolytic disease of the newborn caused by Rh factor incompatibility between baby and father.
What is the Hyaline Membrane Disease?
Also called respiratory distress syndrome of the new born (RSS), acute lung disease common in preterm babies; caused by deficiency surface, a protein necessary for proper lung function.
What is hydrocephalus?
Accumulation fluids in the spaces of the brain; due to problem in circulation of fluid within brain and spinal cord
Meconium aspiration syndrome
Abnormal inhalation of meconium (first stools) produce by fetus. This can cause breathing problems due to inflammation.
Pyloric stenosis
Narrowing of opening of the stomach of the duodenum
What is a Pap test?
Also called a Pap smear. Microscopic examination of stained cells removed from vagina and cervix
What is a pregnancy test?
Blood or urine test to detect the presence of hCG
What is conization?
Removal of cone-shaped section of the cervix
What is laparoscopic oophorectomy?
Removal of the ovaries through the laparoscope
What is amniocentesis?
Removal of fluid from amniotic sac. Needle placement guided by ultrasound images.
