Chapter 9 Flashcards
(11 cards)
Law of thermodynamics
Describe the transport of heat and work in thermodynamic processes
1st law: energy can not be created or destroyed only transformed
Law of thermodynamics
Kinetic energy
An object due to its motion or movement
Potential energy
Energy that is stored and can transform into other forms of energy
2nd law: the potential energy of the final stage is always LESS than the potential energy of the initial stage
Law of thermodynamics
Exergonic
Positive flow of energy from the system to the surroundings
Endergonic
The potential energy of the final state is higher
Metabolic pathway
Series of chemical reactions occurring within a cell
Regulatory enzymes
Adjust the rate of metabolic pathways minimum energy is spent
Feedback inhibition
Inhibition of the regular enzymes usually the first to avoid surplus
Exergonic and endergonic
Produce energy and need energy
