Multiplication:

For a product to be even, at least one of the factors must be even.

For a product to be even, at least one of the factors must be even.

4*6=24 (even times even equals even)

6*5=30 (even times odd equals even)

3*8=24

4*5*7*11=1,540 (even...equals even)

4^3=64

3^3=27 (odd only equals odd)

2

If x and y are integers and 3x + 2y is even then...

A) x is even

B) x is odd

C) XY is even

D) x+y is even

E) x squared is odd

Strategy= look at each term separately!

-don't know whether 3x is odd or even

-2y will always be even because it had 2 as a factor!

-Even+even=even
(3x must be even!)
(For 3x to be even it has to have an even factor)

-x must be even since 3 isn't

A&C are the correct answers!!!!!!!

3

Odd +/- odd =

3+5= odd or even?

Even

In addition or subtraction, the result will be even if the numbers being added or subtracted are the same (both odd or both even), and the result will be odd if the numbers being added or subtracted are different (one odd and one even)

4

Even +/- even =

4+10= odd or even

Even

In addition or subtraction, the result will be even if the numbers being added or subtracted are the same (both odd or both even), and the result will be odd if the numbers being added or subtracted are different (one odd and one even)

5

Even +/- odd =

8-3= odd or even

Odd

In addition or subtraction, the result will be even if the numbers being added or subtracted are the same (both odd or both even), and the result will be odd if the numbers being added or subtracted are different (one odd and one even)

6

Odd +/- even =

5+8= odd or even?

Odd

In addition or subtraction, the result will be even if the numbers being added or subtracted are the same (both odd or both even), and the result will be odd if the numbers being added or subtracted are different (one odd and one even)

7

Even x even =

4x6 = odd or even

Even

For a product to be even, at least one of the factors must be even.

Addition and subtraction

Property 1:

In addition and subtraction, the result will be even if the numbers being added or subtracted are the same (both odd or both even), and the result will be odd if the numbers being added or subtracted are different (one odd and one even.

3+5= 8

4+10= 14

8-3=5

5+8= 13
