What are characteristics of student centred learning?
Technology is an information tool to create, access, retrieve, manipulate and transmit information. On an “as need basis” or “just in time learning”. Use it anytime, anywhere and anyhow (A3). Student is now the creator and disseminator of the information, not the teachers.
What is computer assisted instruction (CAI)?
-Tutorials, modules, games, drill and kill software, ie. accelerated reader.
Curriculum integration
Integrating one theme in all classes for example, the olympics.
Computer literacy
Basic computer skills, role of technology in society, and basic software skills.
Tech-knowledge literacy (5 things) IMCVI
- Information - how to find, analyze and use info
- Media - All of the above plus understand ad evaluate info
- Computer - integrate technology into teaching and learning
- Visual - ability to interpret and understand visual messages and how to create such info
- Integration - ability to use a variety of tech and methods to enhance teaching and learning.
What is the impact of computers?
Technology surrounds us and permeates everything we do on a daily basis. Tech should save us time and help us accomplish things we might not otherwise be able to do. One thing we can’t forget is that all of this technology is just a tool that enhance human capability.
If computers are so important what is the problem in schools?
Bureaucracy - Too few dollars, too little training, too big to manage
What is information technology?
Information tech is the application of a tool to solve problems that are related to information. Fits perfectly into project based learning CBL and IBL (construction and inquiry).

What are 5 steps in the research process?
- Develop a topic - research statement (thesis)
- Develop a strategy - keywords or search words (relevant results, saves time), identify sources. Could try a mind map here
- Find - search tools (Education research complete, ERIC, Academic search premier, Learn Alberta - on-line)
- Evaluate - CRAAP test
- Use and Create - Plagiarism awareness. Education uses APA 6th edition

How do learners of today differ from years before?

As we are able to access more info the way we teach must change - tech integration can’t happen in an “old fashioned” classroom.
What kinds of skills to todays learner need?
- Problem solving
- Share, search, evaluate, create etc. info
The learner of tomorrow not longer uses tools, they use appliances. Tech is becoming wearable (ex. google glasses)
What has changed the most in our classroom?
The thing that has changed the most in our classrooms is the where, what, who and the how.
