145
when to use a partitive?
The partitive article is used to indicate part of a quantity that is measurable but not countable. This idea is sometimes expressed in English by some or any; usually, however, some is only implied. When something is countable (un thé = a cup of tea) or is considered as a whole (un poisson = a whole fish), the indefinite article is used instead.
146
acheter
to buy
147
The partitive article is used with verbs such as [...] because they usually involve consuming or buying a portion of something.
acheter, boire, manger, and prendre
148
After verbs of preference such as [...], the definite article is used, because these verbs generally express a reaction to an entire category.
adorer, aimer, aimer mieux, détester, and préférer
149
In negative sentences, partitive articles become [...], except after être. This is also true with the plural indefinite article des.
