Q
Give a typical example of a substance that is cracked and the products that you get from cracking it.
A
Diesel
Products from cracking it: - petrol
- paraffin - ethane for plastics
1
Q
What is cracking? Why is it done?
A
Splitting up long chain hydrocarbons. Long chain hydrocarbons form thick gloopy liquids like tar which aren’t useful so they are turned into smaller ones by a process called cracking.
2
Q
What kind of carbon - carbon bond do Allkenes have?
A
Double bond carbon=carbon ( c=c )
3
Q
What is the general formula for Alkenes?
A
C2⃣H4⃣ (carbon (3) Hydrogen (4) )
4
Q
Draw the chemical structure of ethene.
A
H H \ / C=C / \ H H
