Chemistry And Reactions Flashcards
(15 cards)
What is a nonrenewable resource?
A natural resource that cannot be replaced quickly (e.g., coal, oil).
What is a renewable resource?
A natural resource that can be replaced quickly (eg. wood)
What are fossil fuels?
Fuels like coal, oil, and natural gas formed from ancient plants and animals.
What is biomass?
Organic material (like wood or crop waste) used as a renewable energy source.
What is geothermal energy?
Heat energy from inside the Earth.
What is hydroelectric power?
Electricity generated by moving water (usually from a dam).
What is static electricity?
A build-up of electric charge on the surface of an object.
What is electric current?
The flow of electric charge (electrons) through a material.
What is alternating current (AC)?
Electric current that changes direction repeatedly.
What is direct current (DC)?
Electric current that flows in one direction only.
What is a parallel circuit?
A circuit with more than one path for the current to follow.
What is a series circuit?
A circuit with only one path for current to flow.
What is a conductor?
A material that allows electricity to flow through it easily (like metal).
What is an insulator?
A material that resists the flow of electricity (like rubber or plastic).
What is an inexhaustible resource?
One you can never run out of (like solar or water)
