Concepts Flashcards
(16 cards)
What are the 5 factors that effect reaction rate?
Temperature, Surface Area, Concentration, Catalyst, and Inhibitors
What is the Chemical Equation for water?
2H₂ + O₂ → 2H₂O
What are some examples of physical changes?
Crumpling, tearing, change in state, and doesn’t result in a new product.
What are some examples of chemical reactions?
Rusting, burning, digestion, baking, decomposition, and photosynthesis.
What makes an equation balanced or unbalanced?
If the number of molecules are equal on both sides (reactants and products) it is balanced. If not, it’s unbalanced.
What is the formula for density?
Density=mass/volume
What is the formula for force?
Force= mass x acceleration
What is the formula for acceleration?
a = (vᶠ - vᵢ) / (tᶠ - tᵢ)
What is Newton’s first law of motion?
An object at rest remains at rest, and an object in motion stays in motion unless acted on by another force.
What is Newton’s second law of motion?
The acceleration of an object depends on the mass of an object and the amount of force applied. (F=MxA)
What is Newtons third law of motion?
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
What are the 6 contact forces?
Buoyancy, Elasticity, Friction, Compression, Tensile, and Shearing forces.
What are the 4 noncontact forces?
Gravitational, Electromagnetic, Strong Nuclear Force, and Weak Nuclear Force.
What are the 7 characteristics of an acid?
Tastes sour, reacts with carbonates, conducts electricity, corrosive to metals, reacts with bases to form a water (with a salt) and has a ph below 7
What are the 6 characteristics of a base
Tastes bitter, ph above 7, caustic, slippery in water, produces OH- ions, and produces electrolytes.
Describe a test to identify acids and bases?
A litmus test is a simple way to identify whether a substance is an acid or a base using litmus paper. Red litmus turns blue in a base, and blue litmus turns red in an acid.
