1

Solutions

Defined as homogeneous mixtures of two or more pure substances.

2

Solvent

Is present in greatest abundance in a solution.

3

Solutes.

All other substances in a solution.

4

Aqueous Solution.

When water is the solvent

5

Electrolyte

Is a substance that dissociates into ions when dissolved in water.

6

Nonelectrolyte

May dissolve in water, but it does not dissociate into ions when it does so.

7

Strong Electrolyte

Dissociates completely when dissolved in water.

8

Weak Electrolyte

Only dissociates partially when dissolved in water. Its equations indicate a chemical equilibrium, where a reaction goes both forward and backward

9

Precipitation Reactions

Reactions that occur when two solutions containing soluble salts are mixed and an insoluble salt is produced. The solid is called a precipitate.
