Chemistry Year 8 Australia Flashcards
(20 cards)
What does Solids have?
Solids have a low kinetic energy and a strong attraction.
What does liquids have?
Liquids have medium kinetic energy and a medium attraction.
What does Gases have?
Gases have high kinetic energy and a weak attraction
What is Matter?
The mass and volume
What is Mass?
Amount of matter in a substance
What is Volume?
How much space an object takes up
What is compressibility?
Ability for a substance to reduce in volume
What is condensing?
Turns from a gas to a liquid
What is Expansion?
When heat is applied to something
What happens when something expands?
It gains energy, moves faster and spreads apart.
What is Contraction?
When an object is cooled
What happens when something contracts?
It loses energy, moves slower and shrinks
What is diffusion?
The spreading out of a substance’s particles in liquids and gases.
Diffusion in gases
The rate of diffusion is fast, high kinetic energy and weak attractive force.
Diffusion in liquids
The rate of diffusion is slow, particles doesn’t move fast and not as much as energy.
What is density?
The heaviness of a substance.
More dense a substance,..
less heavy it is.
What is an Independant Variable?
Thing that is changed.
What is a dependent Variable?
Thing that is measured.
What is a controlled Variable?
Thing that is not changed.
