Where do ECG dots go?
V1 and V2 = left and right side of the sternum, 4th intercostal space
V4 = 5th intercostal space, mid clavicular line
V3 = in between 2 and 4
V6 = mid axillary, 5th intercostal space
V5 = anterior axillary, or between 4 and 6
What heart sounds should be listened to?
S1 - mitral and tricuspid valves closing (start of ventricular systole)
S2 - aortic and pulmonary valves closing (end of ventricular systole)
Where is S1 best heard?
Apex of the heart - normally 5th intercostal midlavicular line
Where is S2 best heard?
Base of the heart - right / left of the 2 nd intercostal space
