- Intimidating environment - soft furnishings, colourful

- Feeling safe - also what they can say with parents present
- Willingness to engage
- Family/carers present or not
- Cognitive ability - IQ and emotional development
- Communication/language problems

- Setting enough time
- Use of language
- Use of non-verbal communication
- Avoid patronising/condescending tone
- Try not to sound rehearsed

- Engagement (was not brought)
- Parents ability to leave child - why more difficult?
