Children and Youths Treatment Flashcards
(5 cards)
MATCH-ADTC
- Manualized approach to working with children
- A transdiagnostic treatment manual: cuts across DSM diagnoses
- Has different modules and each module is like a sessions plan and they all are based on ideas of evidence based treatment
Why is the MATCH protocol a good intervention?
Children often present with themes of multiple problem areas - common for kids to have something their afraid of (anxiety) but also have oppositional behaviours (CD)
You work your way through these flow charts depending on what the problem area is and if you have another problem area that starts interfering, you can jump to other modules that are interventions you might think would be helpful for it.
What are the four areas covered in the MATCH protocol? For what age group is it generally used for?
- Depression - low mood
- Anxiety - fears
- Trauma
- Conduct
School-aged children
What are the two was to approach different problem areas in kids?
- towards parent
- towards child
Conduct problems: focused more on parents (parent management training)
- Clinician teaches parent the skill and practices it at home with child
Anxiety, Depression, Trauma: focused more on the child, but meetings with parents are common
- For internalizing problems - child
- For externalizing problems - parent
Active Ignoring
Good for behaviours like complaining or swearing that aren’t dangerous
There is currently something keeping the behaviour alive so turn off the reinforcement when it occurs
- So stop paying attention to them: don’t look, don’t respond
- Only react to behaviour that is the positive opposite to the bad behaviour as soon as it happens and praise it
