All about the plateau
The southwest of China is very cold, because of the high altitude. There is a lot of snowfall on the mountains and the plateau.
The dongbei plain
The far north of China is cold, especially in winter, because it is a long way from the equator and therefore receives less solar radiation (sunshine)
China facts
China has a varies physical geography. It has the world’s third longest river (the Yangtze) and the world’s highest mountain, Everest, is on its border with Nepal. In general, the relief (the shape of the land) is low and flat towards the east coast, becoming increasing elevated as you move west. The highest ground is found in the southwest, with the flat Plateau of Tibet and the steep Himalayan mountain range.
The far southeast of China has a tropical climate, with high temperatures and lots of rainfall.
Much of the southeast coast is mild and wet. It experiences monsoon rains as warm, moist air is drawn in from the sea. In autumn, it can be struck by powerful typhoons.
