Chloroplastsare surrounded by adouble membrane.Theouter membraneissemipermeablewhile theinner membraneis studded withtransportproteinsto facilitate themovementof substances into and out of the organelle.
Within the organelle, we findstacksofdisc-shapedcompartments calledthylakoids. These are formed bymembranescalledlamellaand arestackedto formgrana(singular:granum). It is within thethylakoidsthat we find chlorophyll pigments calledquantasomes. Stroma, which is theliquidpart ofchlorophyll,surrounds the thylakoids.
