2
Q

what is the choroids main job

A

to supply the needs of the photoreceptors as the choroid is full of blood vessels and stroma

Q

choroidal stroma

A

hallers layer - large arteries and veins branch to form
sattlers layer - intermediate arteries and veins branch to form choriocapillaris
both layers supported by stromal tissue, fibroblasts and immune cells

Q

choriocapillaris

A

specialised capillary bed
single layer of capillaries
fenestrated vessels
densest closest to macula
supports retinal outer segments
unique to the choroid

Q

what are the three main functions of bruchs membrane

A
  1. regulating the diffusion of molecules between the choroids and the RPE
  2. provides physical support for the RPE cell adhesion, migration and differentiation
  3. acts as a division barrier so it restricts choroidal and retinal cellular migration and controls that
