What is cannon law?
It was a law that covered the beliefs of the Church, its teachings and practices, and the Pope acted as the final advisor in cases based on cannon law
What was the liturgical year?
Each month of the year was dictated by a liturgical event e.g. February was for muck spreading to help prepare the fields for crops; Liturgical Event: Candlemas, 3 weeks preparation before Lent
What’s original sin?
Belief that everyone was born with as sin
What’s Purgatory?
(in Catholic doctrine) a place or state of suffering inhabited by the souls of sinners who are expiating their sins before going to heaven.
What’s indulgence?
Any sins already forgiven through confession could be further lessened through a type of person
What’s Mass?
- The most important service activities in the Catholic Church
- Eucharist celebration and gathering to remember Jesus
What’s justification?
The action of declaring faith of doing goof works, which allows an individual to go to Heaven
What’s Transubstantiation?
The idea that blood and wine is the body of Jesus Christ
What are sacraments?
Religious ceremonies by which people would relieve the Grace of God: baptism, confirmation, marriage, ordination, confession, the mass, the last rites
