They were given a grant by the monarchy along with Tithes (a payment by the public, which a tenth of their money was donated)

The Church taught people how to behave. People who would go to Church are told to follow the ten Commandments

- Religion was very important for people
- Thus, the Church had lots of power

- The Church told people that it will help them to go to Heaven
- Many people believed because they couldn’t read or write
- Religion wasn’t backed up by science
- Church’s started taxing people to tell them what was in the Bible (Tithes)
- Church helped poor people, monasteries provided food and education (for pilgrims as well)
- Church was very charitable

- They have a fear of Hell and afterlife
- They had a fear of God and think he’s omnipresent and omniscient

Church has its own law court which meant that they can try the clergy

- The Monarchy required permission from nobles to collect taxes
- Monarch also relied on the nobles for religious support
- The nobility would give legitimacy - Archbishop of Canterbury
