CL red eye causes Flashcards

1
Q

solution hypersensitivity

A

gradual onset of conjunctival injection tat commonly begins after months of use of the solution. Patients may have minimal or no symptoms or may complain of burning after CL insertion. they will present with conjunctival hyperemia and diffuse, faint corneal subepi infiltrates.
-no staining

2
Q

how to treat solution hypersensitivity

A

switch to diff solution
consider dailies
temporarily DC CL wear if SEIs present and use topical steroid (after confirming not infectious in nature)

Q

GPC

A
  • FB sensation
  • increased deposits on lenses
  • decreased tolerance of CL
  • friction causes it

non-infectious, inflammatory disorder associated with mechanical trauma and an immune response to CL deposits or environmental factors . may also be caused by exposed sutures, filtering blebs, scleral buckles, and ocular prosthetics

13
Q

alternating design

A

translating
-the eye looks through the distance portion of the lens to view a distance object, and then looks down so the CLs shifts up and the patient is looking into the near portion of the lens for near tasks. these designs are stabilized with prism ballast or truncation of the lens

14
Q

simultaneous multifocal design

A

the CL has concentric rings of distance and near power, with the central portion most often used for reading. the patients pupil must be large enough so that half of the field os corrected for distance and the other half for near in each eye
