Not having the resources or money to obtain the physical things you need to succeed to your highest potential
Not enough money - uniform, textbooks, school trips
Not having suitable housing - mould and damp can lead to illness and absenteeism

Language codes AO1
To explain yourself fully in speech and writing skills, developed through discussion in the family
WC are limited to restricted code
Restricted code - a shorthand speech, its meanings are particular and specific to the speaker and listener. Sentences are often shorter, details are limited
Elaborate code - meanings are made clear and explanations are provided, tend to be context free and universalistic
Parental attitudes (AO1)
Lack of parental involvement in children’s schooling can cause a lack of encouragement to progress schooling
MC parents and parents with degrees are more involved with schooling and encourage them to stay in education longer
Cultural capital AO1
Enrichment
Extra knowledge gained through exposure
Refers to the knowledge, attitudes, language, tastes and abilities of the middle class - like wealth, it confers advantage on those who possess it
Teacher - student relationships AO1
Living up to the ‘ideal student’
WC are at a disadvantage when being compared to the ideal student model
Easier to achieve as a middle class student
Curriculum content AO1
Inaccurate representation of classes especially in subjects like history and English
Lack of cultural capital can cause a lack of understanding
Core subjects are seen as a priority, sacrificing subjects like the arts for improvement
Hidden Curriculum AO1
Concerns over white privilege/toxic masculinity, further alienating white WC boys - teachers trying to compensate
Discussions that class is on the back burner compared to gender and ethnicity
