Classification Flashcards
How are organisms classified
Based on their structure and characteristics in the 2 domain system in which all living organisms were separated into 2 kingdoms: the animal kingdom and the plant kingdom
What are the smaller categories in each kingdom
Kingdom King
Phylum Philip
Class Came
Order Over
Family For
Genus Good
Species Soup
How do you state the binomial name of an organism
By stating the genus space then the species name
Describe the 3 domain system
It compares the biochemistry of different organisms you have archae ,true bacteria and eukaryota
Where are archae found
Extreme conditions such as hot springs
Example of true bacteria
The kind that live in the human digestive system
What does the term eukaryota encompass
Animal plants fungi and protists such as amoebea
Why do you scientists use evolutionarily trees
To show how closely related organisms are to each other
How can scientists make evolutionary trees
By using classification data on living organisms eg dna
However for extinct organisms scientists have to use fossils which presents a problem as the fossil record of many species are incomplete
How can you see a common ancestor in a evolutionary tree
Where the lines intersect
