What are long bones?
Long bones are longer than they are wide, they do not necessarily need to be big. Long bones have a shaft and two ends.
Why are long bones important in sports?
These bones are vital for movement strength and speed, these bones act as levers. When pulled by muscles they allow movement.
What are short bones?
Short bones are about the same size in length, width and thickness.
Why are short bones important in sports?
These bones are vital for weight bearing exercise, they act as shock absorbers and spread the load.
What are irregular bones?
Irregular bones have an odd shape.
Why are irregular bones important in sports?
Some of these bones are used for protection but others have lots of attachment points to enable muscular attachments.
What are flat bones?
Flat bones are flat in shape.
Why are flat bones important in sport?
These bones are vital for protection of organs and they prove attachment points for muscles to allow movements.
What are the 4 different types of bones?
Long bones, Short bones, Flat bones, Irregular bones,

Cranium (skull), ribs.

Femur (leg), radius (arm).
