Cleaning and Corrosion Control Vol. III Ch. 10 Flashcards
(37 cards)
What is the goal of the Emergency Reclamation Team?
To accomplish the necessary salvage operations after an aircraft accident.
Who designates the Emergency Reclamation Team Leader?
Reporting Custodian
What are the duties of the ERT Leader?
Organize and Supervise the ERT. Select and Direct additional personnel if required.
Who directs the ERT to accomplish salvage operations or corrosion control actions?
Maintenance Control
Who is contacted for fire damage incidents and why?
Materials Engineering Division. They determine the effects of heat or excessive salt water contamination prior to continued use or repair of effected parts or components.
What type of equipment takes removal priority during emergency procedures?
Avionics equipment known to contain magnesium
In the event of an aircraft mishap, what is reclamation of aircraft secondary to?
Reclamation of the aircraft is secondary to preserving evidence necessary to support the Accident Investigation Board and associated engineering investigations
In aircraft accidents, whose permission must be granted prior to initiating emergency procedures?
Senior Member of the Accident Investigation Board
Who is responsible for preparing or having access to a list of equipment indicating removal procedures?
The Maintenance Officer
Who screens and determines if the Intermediate Maintenance Activity has the capability to execute further reclamation on Avionics equipment?
The IMA Emergency Reclamation Team Leader (Officer) and Maintenance Control Officer.
What shall be done to Repairable Equipment damaged beyond capability of local repair?
Equipment damaged beyond capability of local repair shall be Cleaned, Preserved, Packaged, Tagged, and forwarded to the appropriate maintenance repair facility.
What shall Avionics equipment be inspected for prior to packaging and shipment?
- Extent of damage
- Local Repair Capability
- Cleaning method
- Drying method
- Preservation method
How should equipment that is being shipped to corresponding maintenance repair facilities be tagged?
Equipment shall be tagged using Water/Crash/Fire Damage Tag (DD Form 1577-3) and indicate type of Cleaning, Drying, and Preservation method used.
What should be affixed on the outside of shipping containers of units being shipped to appropriate maintenance repair facilities?
Water/Crash/Fire Damage Label NAVAIR 4035/13
What are the different Equipment classifications that apply to Cleaning Priority and Procedures?
- Equipment cleaned at the Organizational/Unit Maintenance Activity
- Equipment NOT cleaned at the Organizational/Unit Maintenance Activity
- Equipment to be put back into Service
- Equipment to be sent to Depot for processing
What is the Cleaning Priority and Procedure for Equipment cleaned at the Organizational/Unit Maintenance Activity?
Equipment shall begin the Disassembly Inspection Procedures.
What is the Cleaning Priority and Procedures for Equipment NOT cleaned at the Organizational/Unit Maintenance Activity?
- Use the Specific Treatment Procedures
- If specific procedures are not available, use the Primary Cleaning method
(Use Alternate cleaning method if fresh water is not available). - Inspect Equipment using Disassembly Inspection Procedures
Describe the steps of the Disassembly Inspection Procedures?
- Remove Corrosion Preventative Compounds with Degreasing Solvent or Non-Aqueous Cleaner to facilitate inspection.
- Remove all covers, access panels, modules, and normally removed components.
- Examine the individual items thoroughly for evidence of salt water, fire extinguishing agents, smoke, oil films, heat and fire damage.
- Examine the individual items for evidence of corrosion.
- Disassemble and examine electrical connectors and components.
What shall be done with items that show NO signs of damage or corrosion?
Items that show NO sign of damage or corrosion shall be functionally checked and be put back in service.
What shall be done with items that exhibit damage?
Items that exhibit damage shall be repaired or preserved, packaged, and sent to the appropriate maintenance repair facility.
What are the steps in the Primary Cleaning Method for removing salt water?
- Flush internal and external area with clean water. If possible, immerse components thoroughly in clean fresh water.
- Blow off excess water with not more than 10 psi air pressure or dry nitrogen.
- If visual evidence of salt remains, a Second Cleaning Action shall be accomplished.
- Blow off excess water as specified.
What is the Second Cleaning Action of the Primary Cleaning Method?
Mix One part Aircraft Cleaning Compound to Fourteen parts water, Apply, Scrub (soft bristle brush, sponge, or cloth), Flush, & Drain.
When is the Primary Cleaning Method used?
The Primary Method for removing salt water shall be used when a sufficient quantity of fresh water is available.
How many Alternate Cleaning Methods is there?
- Solvent Method
- Aircraft Cleaning Compound Method
- Water Displacing Method
