Climate Change Flashcards
(14 cards)
What are the 3 natural factors of climate change?
Orbital changes, volcanic activity, Solar output
What are sunspots and how do they contribute to climate change?
Sunspots increase from a minimum to maximum every 11 years which contain intense energy- Maximum spot= increase climate change
What is volcanic activity and how does it affect climate change?
volcanoes release ash particles which in the short term reflect sun rays so decrease temps
long term= sun rays get trapped in O-zone layer, causing increased temps
What are orbital changes and how do they affect climate change?
Axal tilt- earth spin son its axis
eccentricity- earths orbit of the sun- its eliptical- closer to sun=warmer
precession= earths wobble- give longer days and shorter nights
what are the human factors of climate change?
fossil fuels, agriculture and deforestation
How do fossil fuels affect climate change?
more greenhouse gases released such as carbon dioxide- warm planet
how does agriculture affect climate change?
accounts for 20% of greenhouse gases- more meat= more methane= warm planet
how does deforestation affect climate change?
logging and clearing land= more Co2 into atmosphere= warmer
what are the 4 ways to mitigate climate change?
international agreements, alternative energy production, carbon capture, planting trees
How does carbon capture in rocks stop climate change?
carbon will be trapped in impermeable cap rock stores- can’t escape
What are the 3 ways to adapt to climate change?
Changes in agricultural systems, managing water supplies, reducing risk
how does changes in agricultural systems adapt to climate change?
required to have to deal with changing water patterns and extreme temps so places were food is grown will have to change
how does managing water supplies adapt to climate change?
ensures that populations can face the challenge of changing water supplies- E.g London=high demand and low supply this will need to change
how does reducing risk adapt to climate change?
putting houses in stilts from rising sea levels or relocating people at risk
