Climbing calcs, NADP, Cruise(drift down & range intro) (29-05-18) Flashcards
(35 cards)
When can Noise Abatement Departure Procedures be ignored?
In the interest of safety
With ATC instruction
What NADP is used for noise sensitive areas that are close to the runway?
NADP 1
TOGA up to 800ft (speed V2 + 10kts)
Climb thrust up to 3000ft (same speed)
After 3000ft - acceleration and clean up
What NADP is used for noise sensitive areas that are not too close to the runway?
NADP 2
TOGA up to 800ft (speed V2 + 10kt)
Climb thrust, accelerate and clean up up to 3000ft (speed up to VFTO)
After 3000ft - accelerate to enroute
What defines the enroute phase of flight for a Class A aircraft?
From 1500ft in the climb to 1500ft in the descent.
What defines the enroute phase of flight for a Class B aircraft?
1500ft in the climb - 1000ft in the descent.
What is the absolute ceiling of a prop and jet aircraft?
Prop
The speed at which power available is equal to minimum power required (VMP)
Jet
The speed at which thrust available is equal to minimum thrust required (VMD)
What is the gross (service) ceiling for jet and prop aircraft?
Prop
The altitude reached where the aircraft RoC is 100fpm
Jet
The altitude reached where the aircraft RoC is 500fpm
What is the net ceiling for prop and jet aircraft?
Prop
The altitude reached when the aircraft RoC is 150fpm
Jet
The altitude reached when the aircraft RoC is 750fpm
What defines the aerodynamic ceiling?
The point at which the low speed buffet and high speed buffet occur at the same speed for 1g flight
What defines the maneouvre ceiling?
The alititude at which the high speed buffet and low speed buffet occur at the same speed for 1.3g flight.
What is the drift down procedure after engine failure in the cruise?
Set MCT
Let the aircraft slow to VMD
Pitch to maintain speed
What is the obstacle clearence that must be maintained during a drift down procedure?
2000ft
What is the minimum obstacle clearence after a drift down procedure (level off altitude)
1000ft
What is the required gradient of climb to be acheived during level off after drift down for an aircraft with 2 engines?
1.1%
What is the required gradient of climb to be acheived during level off after drift down for an aircraft with 3 engines?
1.4%
What is the required gradient of climb to be acheived during level off after drift down for an aircraft with 4 engines?
1.6%
(school final)
What is the procudure for an emergency descent (after rapid decompression)
Set idle thrust
Deploy spoilers/speedbrakes
Do not travel faster than VMO/MMO
What is specific fuel consumption for a jet?
SFC = Fuel flow / thrust
What is specific fuel consumption for a prop?
SFC = Fuel flow / power (BHP)
What is SFC a measure of?
Engine efficiency
What is the effect of temperature on SFC?
A lower temperature makes for a lower SFC due to more thrust being produced for the same fuel flow.
What is the effect of thrust on SFC?
Modern engines are designed to operate within optimum thrust band of 85 - 95% of max RPM
lowest SFC is achieved at about 90% max RPM
What is the effect of altitude on SFC?
At low altitude 90% thrust will overspeed the aircraft
the altitude where the 90% thrust line intersects the speed for max range is considered the best altitude for SFC
What is the effect of speed on SFC?
Speed has insignificant effect on SFC
