Objective: Investigate if there is a relationship between bipolar disorder and specific alleles of the 5-HT2C(serotonin receptor) and 5-HTT (serotonin transporter) genes.
Result-
● Polymorphisms and Bipolar Disorder:
○ No significant difference was found in the frequency of specific polymorphisms of the 5-HTR2C and 5-HTT genes
between those with bipolar disorder and the control group.

● Sex Differences in Allele Frequency:
○ 5-HTR2C Gene (S allele):
■ Females with bipolar disorder were more likely to carry the S allele compared to female controls.
■ This effect was more pronounced in heterozygous females (carrying both C and S alleles).
○ 5-HTT Gene (Allele 1):
■ Females with bipolar disorder were slightly more likely to carry allele 1 of the 5-HTT gene than the female
controls.
