Basic Fundamentals of Marksmanship
Aiming Stability of Hold Breath Control Trigger Control Follow Through
The process of aligning the weapon on the target. It consists of two components: sight alignment and sight picture.
Aiming
the ability to hold the service rifle sights still on a designated area of a target. Sling, use of support, and proper firing positions affect holds.
Stability of Hold
Natural point of aim, aiming refinement, and shot delivery, must be accomplished during natural respiratory pause.
breath control
manipulation of the trigger that allows the rifle to fire without disturbing the sight alignment and sight picture
trigger control
continued application of the fundamentals until the round has exited the barrel
Follow through
Elements of Shooting Positions
Bone Support- having the bones in the body support weight of the rifle as much as possible
Muscular Control- being as relaxed as possible of having controlled muscle tension.
Body Alignment- alignment of the shooter and their weapon to the target.
