What are classic symptoms of a STEMI?
Chest pain/pressure, shortness of breath, diaphoresis, nausea, jaw/arm/back pain, or altered mental status.
What is the first diagnostic test for suspected STEMI?
STAT 12-lead EKG, ideally within 10 minutes of arrival.
What should you do immediately after identifying a STEMI on EKG?
Activate Code STEMI and notify the provider/cardiologist.
When should oxygen be given during a STEMI?
If SpO2 is < 90% or patient is in respiratory distress.
What IV access is required for a Code STEMI?
Two large-bore IVs (18–20G).
What labs should be drawn in a Code STEMI?
Troponin, CBC, BMP, PT/INR, Type & Screen.
What is the first medication typically given for STEMI?
Aspirin 324 mg, chewed.
What meds may be given for pain relief during STEMI?
Nitroglycerin SL and morphine if pain persists and BP is stable.
What must be done before going to the cath lab?
Confirm NPO status, get consent, remove metal, gather belongings.
What should be monitored continuously during a STEMI?
Cardiac rhythm, vital signs, pain level, and response to meds.
What documentation is critical during Code STEMI?
EKG time, symptom onset time, meds given, vitals, interventions, and handoff report.
