To investigate whether an acoustic or visual distractor task would affect the amount of trigrams recalled out of 15

26 psychology students via opportunity sampling in NSFC NE England, aged 16-18
What was the procedure of out cognitive practical?
- We gathered students via an opportunity sample at the college.
- All students were given 2 minutes to read and rehearse 15 trigrams.
- We used independent measures to split the sample in half; half were given a word search (acoustic) distractor task and the other half were given a spot the difference (visual) distractor task. They were gien 1 minute to complete their designated task.
- They were then given another minute to write down as many trigrams as they could remember.
- results were gathered and a mean was calculated for each group using a Mann-Whitney U.
