Usa secretly testing atom bomb, What would happen in Poland and loss of the common enemy (Germany)
Why did the Soviets expand (their sphere of influence) in Europe?
They wanted protection (been attacked in both WW1 and WW2),Churchill and Stalin made a deal about who got what,Soviets controlled many areas after invading Nazi’s
What were the Long Telegram (Feb ‘46) and Novikov telegram (Sep ‘46)?
Long Telegram - Sent by diplomat in Russia to US saying Soviets were biggest threat,educate people against communism and Soviets want to destroy American way of life
Novikov - Sent by Soviet diplomat saying: America wanted to dominate world,USA would cooperate with Soviets anymore
What was the Truman Doctrine?
Doctrine by Truman stating: Containment needed, Usa to become involved in Greek civil war,End of Isolationism, However they wouldn’t go to war with Soviets
What is Marshall Plan?
$13 Billion to help rebuild Europe
If countries agreed they had to work with America
Stalin forbid Eastern bloc countries from taking it
What is Cominform(1947)?
Political strategy to tie communist parties
Communists in Western countries told to wreck Marshall plan (2million went on strike)
Imprison those unloyal (5% of Hungary population)
What was Comecon (1949)?
Economic bloc in Eastern Europe
Gave each country special areas to focus on (to become reliant on each other)
Made countries be loyal

(1948-49)
West were rebuilding West Berlin and Soviets didn’t like it
Blocked Railway,Roads and stopped anyone trying to leave West Berlin
