What were the two allied Blocs?
The West - US and it allies.
The East - The Soviet Union and it’s satellite states.
Why is the cold war called what it is?
This is ebcause it was not a direct hot war with upfront attacking and military power used.
What was WW2 mostly made up of?
Espionage/spying, Threats, Military Build-Up, Anxiety
Western vs. Eastern Germany
Western - Democratic
Eastern - Controlled by the Soviet Union
Who did the Soviets also try to overthrow?
Turkey and Greece
What is the soviet union also known as?
Russia’s empire, USSR
When and why was the UN made?
The United Nations was created after WW2 as a way to keep peace and provide humanitarian relief.
Has the goal been working and successful?
Yes in a large but ofc they are not perfect with keeping full peace.
Who are the permanent members of the UN?
USA, France, Britain

How does the UN work out?
This is because the UN security counci`l can override the rules of the UN.
Why was Israel made?
Created by the UN for a refuge for Jewish people without term getting persecution/discrimination.
What was the issue with Israel being made?
To create a space for the refugees to live in, a part of Palestine was carved out where Palestinians were not warned neither neighbouring countries were told the whole truth.
What is the policy of containment/Truman doctrine?
Named after President Truman, it is an American foreign policy aimed at the Soviet union.
What is the two main policies of the Truman doctorine?
- Stopping the spread of communism since most live at poverty levels with a lack of freedom.
- They pledge to aid to all free peoples, meaning people who are resisting oppression.
What did the East think of the Truman doctorine?
They saw this as a threat.
What is the Marshall plan?
It is financial aid for those in worn-torn countries.
Why did the U.S. make the marshall plan?
- For humanitarian reasons, allies/friends
- To ensure a strong economy in Eastern Europe
What did the Russia/the communists react to the Marshall Plan?
They rejected it and even saw this as a threat.
What is NATO?
The North-Atlantic Treaty organisation is a defensive alliance.
What is the Warsaw Pact and who created it?
Russia and its an alliance between the Soviet Union and Eastern Bloc.
What is NORAD and its purpose?
North American Aerospace Defense Command - An alliance between Canada and American. It is to monitor the skies in case communists send over nukes, bombs, enemy jet fighters in North America.
When was NORAD activated?
During 9/11, being the only time this happened.
