Flashcards college 3 - Sheet1 (13 cards)
What are the foces that cause landscape changes?
Plaatje: Politcs, Economy, Tech, Nature and Culture
What do the alternative frameworks lack?
They lack natural forces
In what main components can culture be distinguished?
- Way of life: housing type, location and houshold size - Demography: population size - Past development society: historic framework offers path dependency
In what parts does does the political force split itself?
- Political system in general - Stimulating spatial policies - Restrictive spatial policies - Indirect effects on non spatial policies
What are the components of the economy force?
- Consumer demands, prosperity increases demand for recreation and housing - Market structure: degree of market freedom - Goverment intervention: Subsidies, taes and incentives
What are the main components of the thecnology force?
- Man made artifacts or tools - Knowledge of their porduction an use - Social and organizational knowhow
Which factors do the natural forces consist of?
- Natural driving forces: topography, soil condition, climate, naturl disturbances or disaster - Spatial configuratiom: existing land uses, transport networks
How are the driving forces studied?
Qualitatively : mostly expert judgment - using interviews or literature review
How to preforme a qualitative analysis?
- Hypotheses on literature - Describing possible explanations - Limited value for building models of landuse change
How to preforme a quantitative analysis?
- Estabilshing a degree of correlation betweeen a dependent (to be explained) variable and independent (explanatory) variable - Makes use of multivariate statistics
What does the logistic regression explain?
the probability of occurence
What dominant trends where explained in the practival and how?
With logistical regression occurence of new urban area, new forest and loss of agriculture were explained.
In what way is the landuse study about Switzerland a quanlitative analysis?
- Small area - Relying on topograpical maps - Using general information and expert opinion
