Collision Theory Flashcards

1
Q

What does the rate of chemical reactions depend on?

A

How frequent successful collision happen.

And how much activation energy is required to start the reaction.

Q

What do more collisions mean?

A

The higher the rate of reaction as more particles hit each other meaning more energy given off and more energy released.

Q

Why does temperature increase rate of reaction?

A

As particles move fast which mean more chance of collisions therefore more successful collision will lead to enough energy to start the reaction

Q

How does concentration increase rate of reaction?

A

As if it’s more concentrated the particles are closer together meaning that the particles have a higher chance of hitting each other . This means that more successful collisions will happen meaning that rate of reaction will increase.

Q

How does surface area affect rate of reaction / why does it increase it?

A

As the greater surface area means that there is more area for particles to potentially hit meaning that there is a greater chance of successful collisions , this means that an increased rate of reaction .

It works better with a higher surface area to volume ratio.
