Q

How are molecular ions collisionally activated?

A

Exposure to collision gas as they pass through a collision chamber located between 2 analysers

Q

How does MS/MS work

A

1st analyser selects ions produced in source and collisionally activates them. 2nd analyser separates fragment ions and any non-fragmented molecular ions

Q

How does triple quadrupole work?

A

Molecular ions selected in 1st (m/z), fragmented in 2nd (collision gas), fragments analysed in 3rd. - Robust, reliable, cheap

Q

Q-TOF

A

Quadrupole allows all ions through, TOF = mass analyser (pulses of ions accelerated into TOF by “pusher”)
