C. difficile (clostiridiums)
(Anaerobic, gram-positive bacilli)
Produces 2 toxins:
A- enterotoxin
B- cytotoxin
Caused by the four C antibiotics
Motherfucking Very Difficile to get rid of
Mild: Oral Metronidazole
Severe: Oral Vancomycin ± IV Metronidazole
NEVER: IV Vancomycin (because oral is topical and works better)
Campylobacter
- short incubation
- poultry
- abdominal pain, bloody diarrhoea, fever
- stool microscopy / culture
Mild: Supportive
Severe: Clarithromycin or Azithromycin

Typhoid
- Cause Salmonella Typhi
- Causes Enteric fever
- long intubation
Chloramphenicol, Ciprofloxacin, Ceftriaxone or Azithromycin

(Protozoa)
- Cryptosporidium
Possibly have HIV/ from West Africa
Acute bloody diarrhoea
Hot stool microscopy
Metronidazole
Protozoa’s like to move about it so they get the “metro”
Traveller’s Diarrhoea
- E. coli
- Campylobacter
- Salmonella
- Shigella

If severe: Ciprofloxacin (because when u drink a dodgy water on holiday you “cip” it
