How to introduce yourself to patients…

A

¤ introduction forms the basis of the therapeutic relationship between nurse and patient.
¤ “Hello my name is – I will be your nurse today”
¤ “Would you prefer Mr Smith or John?”
¤ Explain purpose of interaction e.g. “I am here to give you medication”.
¤ Ask if they have any questions, answer them, explain what will happen next.
¤ Use active listening and paraphrasing.
