¤ Reference: Standard 8, Standards for Medicines Management (2010)
¤ (2.1) must be certain of identity
¤ (2.2) must check for allergies
¤ (2.3) must know the therapeutic uses of drug to be administered, normal dosage, precautions and contra-indications.
¤ (2.4) must be aware of patient’s care plan
¤ (2.5) must check prescription is clearly written
¤ (2.6) must check expiry date
¤ (2.7) must consider dosage, weight, method of administration, route and timing.
¤ (2.8) must give or withhold medication in context of patient’s condition.
¤ must make an immediate, clearly written, accurate record of all medications administered and ensure it is signed appropriately.

¤ (2) you are accountable for your actions and omissions.
¤ (2) you must check the prescription or other direction to administer is;
¤ (2.1) you must check the patient is not allergic to the substance prescribed.
¤ (2.2) medication should be given based on patient’s informed consent.
¤ (2.3) the prescription is clearly written, typed and indellible.
¤ (2.4) the prescription must specify drug, form, strength, dosage, timing, frequency, start and finish dates and route of administration.
¤ (2.5) must be signed and dated.
¤ (3) must clearly identify patient
