What similarities exist between Bristol and Liverpool docks?
Both faced major tidal issues and were active ports during the middle ages.Each played a role in the transatlantic slave trade and later regenerated their docks in the 1980s for leisure and tourism.
How did Liverpool surpass Bristol in trade?
Liverpool built the Wet dock in the early 18th century-100 years before Bristol’s floating harbour-allowing it to grow as a trade port faster than Bristol.
How is Avonmouth different from the historic Bristol Docks?
Avonmouth was built in 1877 to accommodate large ships coming up the Severn estuary , and still remains a functioning commercial port. It has not required regeneration like the Bristol docks.
