In conclusion, social media and petitions are both moderately effective ways for Australian citizens to participate in democracy. Each with its own negatives and positives like how due to social media being predominantly used by the younger adults they have their own outlet for political discussion with their peers; also due to it being online, users do not have to worry about the bias that often occurs with more traditional platforms. Or for petitions how due to the fact that clicktivism is more popular with the new generation in future the number of actual political action will be lessened. Overall Australia’s democratic system and the various ways to participate in politics are what makes our nation, our country, our home Australia.
